Say hello to our newest recruits

12.11.2018

We are happy to announce that lawyers Asta Salo and Laura Sundström have joined our firm this fall. Asta works as an Associate in the Data Protection, IPR & Technology team, and Laura is an Associate in the Corporate & Commercial team.

If you have ever wondered how our new recruits spend their first week, first month, and first year at Procopé & Hornborg, keep reading.

Meet Asta Salo, a newly-minted lawyer who recently joined the ranks of our Data Protection, IPR & Technology team. Read on to find out how Asta spent her first week at Procopé & Hornborg.

1. What has been the highlight of your first week?

Getting to know my coworkers has been the highlight of my first week. I have felt welcome from the very start and instantly felt part of the team.

2. What has surprised you while working at Procopé & Hornborg?

What surprised me was the variety and wide range of legal issues I will be able work with.

3. What is the best part about your job?

The best part about my job so far has been all the new challenges and the continuous learning. I can honestly say that I have learned something new every day during my first week.

4. What is your favorite lawyer joke?

Why do lawyer jokes not work?

Lawyers do not think that they are funny, and the rest of the people do not think that they are jokes.

5. What is your favorite law and why?

My favorite act will be the Finnish Data Protection Act once it becomes applicable, because I have been waiting for it for so long!

6. How are you going to challenge yourself in the upcoming week?

By next week I will know everybody’s names without my cheat sheet!

Lawyer Laura Sundström joined the Corporate & Commercial team earlier this fall. Below she shares her thoughts about her first month working as a lawyer at our firm.

1. What has been the highlight of your first month?

During my first month, the fortnightly meetings with my tutor have been of immense significance for adapting to the new workplace environment.

2. What has surprised you while working at Procopé & Hornborg?

I was surprised by how much the firm invests in the training and integration of new employees.

3. What is the best part about your job?

The best part of the job is the varying tasks and the ability to work at one’s own discretion.

4. What is your favorite lawyer joke?

Lawyers never lose their appeal.

5. What is your favorite law and why?

My favorite piece of legislation is probably the Contracts Act; it mirrors the general idea of Nordic cooperation and provides us with flexible provisions based on the freedom of contract.

6. How are you going to challenge yourself in the upcoming month?

I will challenge myself to be even more open to new challenges and opportunities and to learn something new every day.

Dima Talja has been working in our Competition Law and Public Procurement team for the better part of 1,5 years. This is what Dima has to say about his first year with us.

1. What has been the highlight of your first year?

A few highlights pop into mind: I have been working on a couple of big and lengthy projects involving interesting legal questions. I have also enjoyed our extracurricular activities such as sailing.

2. What has surprised you while working at Procopé & Hornborg?

It is surprising how much business knowledge you gain from various fields when working at a law firm – understanding clients’ business environment is key.

3. What is the best part about your job?

I appreciate the encouraging and motivating work environment at Procopé & Hornborg and the ability to learn from my peers and seniors.

4. What is your favorite lawyer joke?

Two lawyers arrive at a restaurant and order a couple of drinks. They then take sandwiches from their briefcases and begin to eat. Seeing this, an angry waiter approaches them and says:”Excuse me, but you cannot eat your own sandwiches in here!” The lawyers look at each other, shrug, and exchange sandwiches.

5. What is your favorite law and why?

Unsurprisingly, it is the Competition Act, as I find it logical. Moreover, I appreciate its EU law aspect and how, in general, it is a part of EU-wide harmonization of the competition legislation.

6. How are you going to challenge yourself in the upcoming year?

Personal professional growth at Procopé & Hornborg comes naturally as the variety of tasks is tremendous. During the upcoming year I am planning on doing even more assignments outside of my own team.
